Play to watch (Mark) landing at Orchid Beach

In my day job, I’m responsible for ensuring the news and current affairs from across the East Midlands are broadcast on the BBC. It was therefore quite a surprise to wake up this morning and find that Jonathan and I had MADE the news. My tales of our adventures around the rural areas of Australia had included a photo of a small plane like ours that had flipped upside down as it hadn’t been correctly tethered. Rather naughtily Jonathan had posted a photo on Instagram simply saying “Bugger”.

This led to a flurry of messages and calls from friends and family who were concerned my worst fears had come true! In fact, my dear friend Sarah Hoggard ( long suffering wife of former England bowler Matthew) even threatened Captain Cockpit with never feeding him with one of their fantastic meals if something dire had happened to me. Well some of the papers have had a bit of a field day with the escapade - but most importantly it has increased the profile of the amazing service Angel Flight which is the whole reason we are undertaking these trips into the outback.

We were sad to leave the haven of Fraser Island, but enjoyed one last scenic flight, including a stop on Orchid Beach, described by our Head of Entertainment as one of the most picturesque landings he has done. Thank goodness he’s a pro. It’s back to work for Jonathan tomorrow, and his pre-match chat with Ben Stokes went rather better than their conversation after Perth. Let’s just hope England play better, too.
